Hilton Ruiz—Tribute Project
CDs, Live Performances & A Documentary Film

M27 and Thought Bubble Concepts present the Latin All-Stars Tribute to the late great legendary pianist Hilton Ruiz.

Hilton “Matchwagon” Ruiz was a versatile jazz pianist known for his pulsing, rhythmically exiting Latin jazz and bebop playing. Hilton brought energy and flair to virtually every jazz genre including boogie-woogie, Afro-Cuban, and contemporary Latin styles.

A Nuyorican, Hilton was a child prodigy who, by age five, appeared on local television, and made his Carnegie Hall debut at age eight. He released over 20 solo albums and composed soundtracks for Woody Allen’s Crimes and Misdemeanors, Sam Mendes’ American Beauty, and the Bill Cosby Show. Hilton performed with the greats Eddie Palmieri, Tito Puente, Mongo Santamaria, Charles Mingus, Paquito D’Rivera, and many more.

Tragically, he died a suspicious death in New Orleans in 2006 at age 54, and the circumstances of his death remain an unsolved murder mystery.

With YOUR help, producer and close friend Marco Matute can continue to keep Hilton Ruiz’s music and legacy alive.

By pledging, you will help complete the tribute documentary featuring never-before-seen footage of Hilton on tour, in the studio, and the piecing together of his mysterious death. In addition, the film will include footage from an upcoming tour that launches at this year’s Puerto Rican Day Parade in NYC and continues on to include Puerto Rico and New Orleans. Honoring Hilton are such top artists as Dave Valentine, Lew Sokoloff, Dick Griffin, Bob Cranshaw, Chico Freemen, Willie Martinez, and many others. The producers will also release a ‘Live From…” CD with added DVD Extras footage which will be recorded from this tour.

This film and CD/DVD will bring to life the gift of Hilton’s talent and the legacy he left behind.

Pledging directly involves you in the preservation of Hilton’s legacy and celebration of his life and contribution to the New York Latin sound and to jazz music at large. The rewards for pledgers include a digital copy of the documentary, new live CD/DVD PLUS exclusive updates with footage of never-before-seen moments of Hilton rehearsing, performing, and hanging out in NYC, Puerto Rico, and New Orleans. Also available are exclusive items and experiences including Ruiz’s previously unreleased albums and extended play digital downloads.

So please join in this unique tribute to Hilton Ruiz: celebrate his life and keep his legacy and music alive!
