Horace Swaby (21 June 1954 – 18 May 1999), known as Augustus Pablo, was a Jamaican roots reggae and dub record producer, melodica player and keyboardist, active from the 1970s onwards.
He popularised the use of the melodica (an instrument at that time primarily used in Jamaica to teach music to schoolchildren) in reggae music. His album King Tubbys Meets Rockers Uptown (1976) is often regarded as one of the most important examples of dub.
Greetings to one and all we are Isis and Addis Swaby, the daughter and son of Horace Swaby aka Augustus Pablo Since. We were 9 and 10 years old respectively when our father passed away. We didn’t know him as a dub icon or musical ambassador. To us he was simply Daddy who was the best father he was filled with joy having created two children that reflected his image and personality as well as having there own identity we lived as one family even if we may not have been on the road with him while he toured and travelled to spread his message everywhere he went he took us with him as we have him in our hearts and mind at all times in all of our activities in life and music as we have grown to learn much about his history and legacy from our moms and his close associates and friends which gives us the strength and courage to take the legacy and works which he created in our hands to ensure the continuation and preservation of his music and name as the through The Augustus Pablo Estate which was formed in 1999 after the untimely passing of the Melodica and Dub Icon Horace Swaby known to the world as Augustus Pablo of a rare nerve disorder on May 18th 1999. At the time he was 46 years of age and had been active in the music industry for over 30 of them having released well over 20 solo albums countless singles and production for artists like Jacob Miller , Hugh Mundell , Yami Bolo , Horace Andy and the Heptones to name a few through his Rockers International label and production which led to the opening of his Rockers Record Shop on Orange Street Kingston in 1976 a place to house and supply the growing demand of his productions. All of these recordings, Have become highly sought after collector items for both new and old listeners and supporters , In short the style of music and production that our father created has influenced so many people in ways which words cannot express which goes hand in hand with him being an instrumentalist with many fans from places like Japan and South America ,France and Africa it would take a library to account the effect of his music on his fans which have been deemed by many media sources to be a cult like following which continues to grow and spread like the wind across the earth
With that being said We are honored to present a reissue of the King Tubbys Meets Rockers Uptown Album on the 40th anniversary of its release in 1976 which will include a few rare and never before released tunes by our father. King Tubby and Augustus Pablo’s works especially the tracks which were compiled for this album some 40 years ago are the foundation of Dub Rockers Music and up to this day remain a standard for the Genre as well having influenced the creation of other genres like Dub Step Drum and Bass even Hip Hop roots stem from the approach which Tubbys and our dad to creativity creating countless versions and or remixes and the Sound System Culture which was and still is a main platform to present this form of music which is engineered to played on sound systems
We are taking a different approach to the release which will give new and old fans the opportunity to be a part of this release and add a personal familial touch to the experience.
