Composer, arranger, producer, musical director and saxophonist Yarde casts a wide musical net having worked with Orlando Julius to 4hero, Plan B to Britten Sinfonia, Keziah Jones to Kronos Quartet, Tony Allen to TY, Wretch 32 to Wonderbrass and Jonzi-D to Jack Dejohnette.
Since appearing with the JAZZ WARRIORS as a teenager he went on to lead Tomorrow Warriors’ then j-life. He’s played in the big bands of Andrew Hill, McCoy Tyner, Hermeto Pascoal, Sam Rivers, Roy Ayers, Mano Dibango, Guy Barker, Julian Siegel and Mike Gibbs and been a member of various bands led by Louis Moholo for almost 30 years.

His own projects range from fx’d solo loopisms of the BlueBox Diaries, the McCormack & Yarde Duo with pianist Andrew McCormack, TRiO WAH!, OMMMY4 to the larger, multi-instrumentalist ladened ACOUTASTiC BOMBASTiC. He also appears regularly in Hastings based band HEXAGONAL, Matt Ridley’s Quartet, Elaine Mitchener’s SWEET TOOTH and the BANSANGU Orchestra.

Working in various mediums he’s written mass participation projects such as BOLD AS BRASS and Skip Dash Flow, a number of works for the London Symphony Orchestra including a Flugel Horn Concerto for Hugh Masekela, and many theatre and dance pieces for the likes of the National Theatre and Jonzi-D (including AeroplaneMan and Ivan).
Awards include a Civitella Ranieri Fellowship, a Paul Hamlyn Award and the first BASCA for Contemporary Jazz Composition for his BBC Proms compositional début (Rhythm and Other Fascinations 2009). He’s produced award winning albums for Soweto Kinch, Gwilym Simcock, Denys Baptiste and Empirical.

2018 saw him rapping production on Cassie Kinoshi’s SEED Ensemble debut Driftglass and Anthony Joseph’s 7th, People Of The Sun. As well as MDing Anthony’s band, he is currently working with him on a major event celebrating the Windrush Generation which will see an extend 10 piece band share the stage with Calypso Rose, Mighty Sparrow and Gaika to name a few. Post this period he is very much looking forward to concentrating more on his own projects
