The folk rock band Sherwood Forest originally started out in Bloomington, IL, as a solo vehicle for lead singer/keyboardist Clifford Close before inviting his two friends--which included current guitarist Matt Powers--to join him and form a band. With this line-up, they played a few shows, wrote a few songs, and even came out with their first release, “Live At Midnight Espresso” (available on BandCamp).
The band then went on a year hiatus when Clifford left for Nebraska to do school. When they came back, they added more band members and created their first studio release, a self-titled EP produced by Sammy Hinrichsen (also on BandCamp).
A year later and with an improved line-up, the band figured they had enough talent within the band to self-produce their own material. Thus was created their second studio release, “No Retreat.” Self-recorded and self-produced with no outside help, “No Retreat” has seen a lot of attention and success locally (available on iTunes, Spotify, and BandCamp).
With five members (Clifford Close, Matt Powers, Mitchell Owens [guitars], Trenton Perry [bass], Chandler Claps [drums]), the band hopes to tour more and write more to start work on their next release.
