Hey hey, A-Grade lovers
As you may be aware, we’ve been working on our new album, and the good news is that it’s nearly ready. We reckon that the follow-up to 2010’s In Debt (which was made before Jez, Simon and Marco joined) is shaping up to be quite a leap forwards – more complex and yet more powerful and direct too – and we’re looking forward to getting it out there for you to have a taste for yourselves.
However, there’s a catch. Making and releasing the kind of stuff that we do, and spreading the word about it, doesn’t come cheap. Let’s face it – we’re not a garage punk band or a lo-fi indie act and we can’t program the whole thing in our bedrooms and stick it on Soundcloud and expect anyone to care, and we don’t think you’d want us to be any of these things. On top of that, we’re entirely self-funded, relying on a combination of full-time work, overdrafts and pulling in every favour we can.
Now, we’ve been doing some sums regarding the album, and we’ve worked out that we can cover the recording, mastering and promotional costs ourselves. But we’re a physical release kind of band, and we think you’d be quite disappointed if we turned our back on physical formats. We also think, from the way people reacted to the recent single, that vinyl has the edge on CD, so we’d love to do a vinyl release of the album.
We also enjoy making videos and we’re keen to make at least one – ideally more – to accompany the album. Although we make them ourselves and nobody involved gets paid – and we really do pull in the favours here – they still cost money. As ABBA once sang, “It’s a rich man’s world”, and they knew a thing or two. Hell, they had a f*cking helicopter!
Soooo we’re asking you to consider digging deep, rifling through those old coat pockets, decimating your student loan etc to pledge for one of the exciting packages on the right. If we hit our target, you’ll get whatever you pledged for (including free download of the album a whole month before it’s released to the wider world) plus we’ll pull out the stops on another video and press the album on vinyl – and, because if something’s worth doing it’s worth doing properly, that’ll be 180g vinyl in a picture sleeve with a printed inner sleeve to boot. Mmmm! On top of that, should your generosity be so overwhelming that we exceed our target by enough, we’ll also do a digipak CD format for those of you who prefer that.
So come on, you know it makes sense – whether you can only run to the record or digital release, can dig deeper for one of the series of deluxe editions, have a chunk of money to splurge on something a little bit extra or an inheritance to blow on our one-off Number One Fan package, it’ll all help towards the cause. Revolutions, brothers and sisters! 33 per minute, to be precise.
Lots of love, Jonny Cola & The A-Grades xx
The download format of our new album, featuring ten slices of A-Grades magic for your listening delight. It’ll be released to the wider public in early September, but you’ll get access a full month earlier than that.
Added due to popular demand, the album in digipak CD format.
The 180g vinyl format of the album. We can’t show you a picture of it because, as you know, it doesn’t exist yet, which is why we’re doing this campaign. But it’ll look, feel and sound gorgeous.
