This album is an end and a beginning.
I’m really excited to announce my new album – Living on Top – available April 28, 2017. This album has been in the making for about a year and a half now and I’m just about ready to bring it to you. After muscling through nearly 10 years at The Diamonds in the Northside neighborhood of Cincinnati, I snagged an awesome space to put together a new studio not too far from away. And, I’m launching my own label.
Living on Top is different from so much I’ve done in the past. I’ve explored some cool new directions with instrumentation and worked with a ton of amazing musicians from around Cincinnati that brought a lot to the table. I recorded it at The Diamonds, which left me without the burden of having to pay for studio time. I knocked out 10 tracks that I’m really proud of. I wrote and produced the entire album myself except for one cover of a song by The Parliaments (I recorded and produced it, obviously, but didn’t write it). And this is it – Living on Top. I hope you like it.
While the studio time was free, that didn’t mean “stress free.” The Diamonds is (was) in an old building in Cinci’s Northside. I’ve been writing and recording my music and producing for others there for since 2007. But, it’s falling apart – kinda has been from day one, but it was always something I could work around. After getting with a new manager in December 2014, deciding to make a new album and setting aside time to write and record, the ‘falling apart’ became too much. Aside from being bone-chilling cold, the studio flooded last winter. I didn’t lose any equipment, but I did lose my piano for a while (got it fixed) as well as a lot of recording sessions with other bands that are usually my main source of income. Honestly, though, the toughest thing of all was being on the verge of getting kicked out of the place that I busted my ass to build while watching it fall apart the entire time I was recording.
Of course, once an album is recorded, it’s not really finished – there’s a bunch more to do. That’s where you come in. By pre-ordering the album and buying some of the exclusive items on Pledge Music, I’ll be able to get Living on Top out to you. Plus, there’s cool exclusive items like the brand new 10” of my 2014 ep, Move; handmade box sets that will include all my solo LPs and the 10” ep; signed albums; very out of print colored vinyl; signed lyric sheets; limited edition t-shirts; private concerts; producing one of your band’s tracks or an entire album; a tour of my new studio, Mt. Saturn (when it’s done) and more. Your support and pledges will help me finish up mastering the new album, design new artwork, press vinyl, get some promo people on to help get the word out and, best of all, get out on the road and bring these new songs to you live.
And to top it all off, I’m in the process of finishing out a new studio located in the lovely hills overlooking the Northside neighborhood. It’s going to be called Mt. Saturn. Right now, it’s just me doing all the work finishing it out and I’m cool with that. Once I get it done, I can get to work on new material as well as recording and producing more bands in a new and improved space.
So, with your help and pledges and support and good will, I’ll keep bringing you good music and put this behind me and ahead of me.
This album is an end and a beginning.
Thanks so much for your support!
