Hello
Any news about the date that I will receive the order. Remember to buy it on August 20, 2017 and it would initially arrive in October of the same year. Then they extended the date to January 26, 2018, but it still does not arrive and I do not have answers from you.
Until what date should I wait?
If it does not arrive on that date, will the full payment be returned to me?

Hi Cecilia, Order has been delivered - quite happy with the set. Overall great music and I like the additional tracks. Sound quality/stereo image: 7/10.

Hello Cecelia,
Checked the messageboard: order paid, shipped, but expected delivery date: 19 January 2018? How can this be?

Hello Cecelia,
I have the same question as put forward by André Rijbroek. Why this late delivery when shipped to Holland on 26 October? DHL says there is a problem that needs to be sorted by shipper.

Finally received mine today here in Canada. Took almost 3 weeks to get here, and arrived at the local post office. I paid $40 for what I was told was 'courier' shipment. Apparently, it was simply sent by post mail from UK. I was also hit with a $27 charge from Canada Customs. So this was an expensive venture, to say the least.

On the positive side, the box set packaging looks great, and the included photos, poster, and booklet look pretty cool. Excited to now spend time to start listening through all the new 5.1 remixes. Will report back with my thoughts on the mix and audio quality.

First thoughts on the audio: I thought I'd start by listening to the stereo remix of One Of A Kind. Is it just me, or does this remix by Jakko sound a bit muffled and muddy compared to the original? I'm finding this especially true on Hell's Bells, where Bill's snare drum is nowhere near as crisp and cutting as on the original. I was hoping, if anything, the new mixes would be more open, clear, and defined. But what I'm hearing doesn't strike me that way. Also surprised at the creative decision to add a long reverb to Holdsworth's guitar solos which is tending to cloud the sound in the midrange. Also notice the level of the guitar parts have been lowered in many places, making me strain to hear them now. I suppose these are just individual choices when someone else remixes an album but, so far, I'm not really digging it. Anyone else have thoughts on the stereo remix of this? Moving on soon to have a listen to the 5.1 surround mix of this album.

First thoughts on 5.1 surround mix of One Of A Kind: Levels overall are very low. Had to do some significant adjustment of L/R and subwoofer levels to get things sounding right. Interesting choices of what to place in surround L/R speakers. Overall sound seems a bit better than the stereo remixes... not as dark and muffled. However, still not crazy about the use of reverb, especially applied to Allan's solos. But a fair amount applied also sometimes to acoustic guitar, and keys. And what seem to me, personally, to be some strange choices with levels on a few things, in terms of balance between keys and guitar stuff. One particularly annoying spot is near end of Sahara Of Sand where during Allan's solo he does a cool downward run of notes and all of a sudden the keyboard arpeggios are brought in really loudly, covering up his guitar! Having said that, I'm hearing some things I've never noticed before in the songs, so I suppose Jakko wanted to bring those out, at least for the sake of a new interpretation of the music. Fair enough. Sahara Of Sand seems to work especially well, with some really nice choices of what is located in the surrounds... very immersive experience. Bottom line: cool to hear this album in surround, revealing some things not noticed or prominent in the original mixes. Just wish Holdsworth's guitar solos weren't as clouded by deep reverb or masked by other things at some points.

One more thing: I just realized that the 'Original 1979' stereo mixes are only found on the DVD, not the CD! So how the heck are we supposed to extract the 1979 tracks to play them in a computer or mobile device app, or on a CD player?

Terrence Tobin

Terrence Tobin commented

Looking at other 5.1 remix products, I've discovered it's fairly common for the 'original' stereo mixes to be put on the DVD disc of the package, instead of a CD. Seems weird to me that this would be the case, but of course it saves the company money by not having to include an additional CD in the package.

To be honest Terence, the most disappointing thing, was there is no 24bit hi res anywhere. The dvd audio is lower bit rate than CD. My box set arrived damaged, and had no choice but to return it,as they can't replace it. I can only hope that one day, the original or 2017 remix will be available as originally promised by Bill in one of the videos.
In regards to the stereo remix, overall its an improvement, Dave's keyboards are certainly up in the mix, as well as bill added percussional parts. To be honest, the 1st two albums have so much happening l would imagine it was a hard balancing act with the mixes, especially when you have the original tracks to play with, and a lower noise floor, elements appear that just get lost in the old fashioned equipment used to master at the time.
Let's hope they offer a 24Bit download.

I started with comparing the 2005 re-issues with the 2017 stereomixes and I was disconcerted with the muddiness and bassyness of the new mix. After listening a bit more apparently I got used to the sound and I have to say I've played the new mixes almost everyday since I got them. There are however some strange things happening, for example the first part of Seems Like a Lifetime ago (pt 1) sounds a bit out of balance where left sounds more muffled than right. All in all however I think the new mixes do the music really justice and it again shows what masterpieces they are...

Damien Read

Received my box set, sadly arrived damaged. Still awaiting a reply about this. I am really disappointed that the DVD audio is not LPCM 24bit 96khz, it's lossy AC3,which is not even up to CD standard. I am sure this must be a mistake,as it renders the 2 channel mixes on DVD as step backwards. I would appreciate a official statement about this, and as a workable solution, offer pledgers a 24Bit 96Khz 2 Channel Flac download. This would be a more practical, and financial for all parties, l doubt Bill would would want to ship 4000 dvds out, or refund Pledges as the product isn't as stated in the original sale. I look forward to a sensible resolution, as I am really gutted.

I haven't received mine yet; are you in the US? I am and it usually takes a bit to get there so I am not concerned yet however it would be nice to have a tracking number to see what the progress has been made on the box's journey across the pond.

Michael O'Connor

Michael O'Connor commented

Maybe we should have made this a huge discussion to include everyone who ordered to see when they received their copy. I live in Atlanta,GA so maybe the fact that Jake got his today means I should get mine tomorrow. Either way Hans I will let you know when I get my copy and anyone else who wants to join this post and let us all know if and when you have received your box set. I was a little bummed when I saw that Amazon posted this for about $20 cheaper but was somewhat encouraged that it was worth the extra money when Amazon listed it as "temporarily out of stock". Maybe this will be a truly limited edition. I hope Bill does the same with his Earthworks band and i would really thing it would be cool for him to release a 74-76 boxset of all the groups he guest starred and maybe the commercial he supposedly played on. I think it is highly unlikely given the amount of groups that would have to sign off on it and maybe there wouldn't be that much interest...at least I think it would be cool....

Hans Steffers

Hans Steffers commented

I think it will take a while before Amazon has it in stock as they reopened the pledge yesterday. It won't be signed anyway I guess. Thanks for letting me know, Michael. I will tell you when I receive mine. It's a bit of a shame that there's no tracking for about € 20 they charged for shipping....

Ron Chrisley

I received mine a few days ago, and have given it all a first listen (except the surround sound and original mixes). A pleasure to revisit the original releases via Jakko's new mixes. I doubt I will listen to the "new" material (Live at the Venue, demos) much though.

I wonder if Paul has received his. He was the first to start the thread but I don't see where he has received it. Other than that it looks like I might be the last man standing.
I did see on the DGM site they are planning on doing one more pressing of the this (hope I don't have to wait for that !) based on demand but I don't understand the following quote about the second pressing. It says "This extension of the limited edition set marginally alters the original terms and conditions of sale. Those who wish can return their set to the point of purchase for a full refund, and we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused." How does that alter the original terms? Would people feel that their set is worth less b/c there are more copies?

Hans Steffers

Hans Steffers commented

For me it has been well worth the wait. I have listened tot Feels Good to Me (2017) and One of a Kind (2017) and they sound great. I always found the original CD's a bit 'thin' sounding and that's gone. There are intruments that couldn't be heard on the old mixes and Jeff Berlin's bass is really outstanding. I'm glad I ordered this, a very welcome addition to my music collection.

Michael O'Connor

Michael O'Connor commented

Finally arrived. I hope someday to have a surround sound system to listen to the DVDs in the way they were intended but I have to agree with Hans in that it was worth it. Luckily I had not bought any of these on cd yet (I have had the albums for years) so it was a great way to get the entire catalog in one purchase. A couple of minor things I didn't like on the boxset set was that the previous releases had one or two bonus tracks that weren't included on this release and it would have been nice to have included the interview discs that came with the first winterfold cd releases and maybe even the Rock Goes to College. But again for me that is pretty minor. Very happy to finally be able to listen to this set!

Paul Heap

Paul Heap commented

No I didn’t receive it and I’m told that I won’t receive it until January. Having paid for this pressing whilst the site said there were plenty of sets available, something appears to have gone seriously wrong.
