We are releasing a new full-length album! It’s been a long time coming and will be released on Modern Outsider Records on April 1st. I’m very excited to present it to you. The album, From The Forest Came the Fire features my band Medicine Bow, and was produced in part by Jim Eno (Spoon). The songs tell tales of tall pines and mountains, dark rivers and ancient bloodlines, and the gathering souls that traverse them. As a band we aim to take you gently by the hand and lead you into these worlds to show you what we have seen: the lightnesses in the deepest forests, the darknesses in the clearings. We hope you enjoy it.
In addition to releasing this album we are also gearing up to head out on a long tour of National Parks in celebration of the Centennial Anniversary of National Parks in the US. Our music is largely inspired by the natural landscapes preserved and protected by these parks, and we can’t think of a better venue for performing it than in the beautiful places from which it arose. Last summer we did a short tour of shows in National Parks and it was a great success. The shows were absolutely beautiful and very well-attended. This summer we have so many parks interested in hosting us that this tour could take us all over the country to parks like Black Canyon, Sequoia/Kings Canyon, Guadalupe Mountains, White Sands, Glacier, Redwood, Medicine Bow, Yosemite, Saguaro, Crater Lake, Sleeping Bear, Isle Royale, Muir Woods, and Bryce Canyon, among others.
…But we need your help to make it happen! These National Parks have extremely limited annual budgets and are not always able to compensate us financially for these performances. As a band we incur many costs related to travel, lodging, and vehicle rental. With this Pledge Music campaign, we are aiming to raise $12,500, most of which will go towards covering these expenses and compensating the band for their time on the road. Our ability to do this tour at all depends on whether or not we can raise this money, so we certainly appreciate your help!
We have set up many different options for you here at our Pledge Music campaign. You can pre-order the album, which automatically gets you an “Access Pass”, giving you access to all sorts of exclusive updates which may include things like tour photos/videos, demos, album progress, and more. You can also just donate to our tour if you’d like! Also, in addition to the new album we have many different exclusive and limited-edition items available for purchase like hand made block prints, hand-cranked patches, and songs written just for you. One of my favorite items available is a roll of either polaroid or disposable camera film. I’ll run around wherever I am and take a bunch of pictures for just you. I’m also really excited about the hand-cranked patches we are offering. When I’m not playing music I’m working hard for an Austin-based chainstitch embroidery company called Fort Lonesome, and I’m really excited to create patches based on themes in my album. There are many more exclusive offerings available too, and each purchase will get us closer to our goal of touring the National Parks, so feel free to browse the page and check out the options.
As a band we are committed to the conservation of our beautiful and fragile National Parks, so if we surpass our goal we will be donating 5% of everything we raise beyond our goal level to the National Park Foundation.
Thanks so much for visiting our campaign and for helping to support independent music. I can’t wait for y’all to hear this album, and I can’t wait to take our music into the beautiful natural parks of our country. We hope to see you out there.

Each of these lathe cut vinyl are hand-cut to order by Jon Niess at Austin Signal on a picture disk. Each one will feature a different picture that I’ve taken on my travels. The song, Next Time I Won’t Break My Own Feet, was a song I wrote in a cabin in the Arkansas mountains during a winter of writing for From the Forest Came the Fire but decided not to use for the album. There is no other way to ever hear this song as it is not available digitally anywhere. Also! After the album grooves are cut by a tiny diamond blade, you are left with a strand of vinyl that looks like a tiny cloud. IT’S A SONG GHOST! I am including your very own song ghost incased in a tiny vial with every order.
