Hello and welcome, friends, to my Pledge page.

Over the past few months I have been in the studio with BBC Radio 2 Folk Award winner Ben Walker and Lauren Deakin Davies recording my debut album ‘Siren Serenade’. The album will build on the transatlantic sounds of folk and country that were featured on my debut EP ‘Foreign Waters’ which I released last year. The album features traditional folk songs as well as original music that was inspired by poetry, literature and stories of love, loss, fate and memory. I’m very lucky to be working with two fantastic co-producers as well as the musical talent of some of the best musicians in British folk including: Hannah Sanders and Ben Savage, Evan Carson (Sam Kelly and the Lost Boys) and Lukas Drinkwater. There are also surprise duets, full band arrangements and original choral pieces with some rather lovely sounding ladies …. but we won’t give away too much just yet!

If you do want to find out more about the songs, the arrangements and who is involved, then this is the place where you can access the record before anyone else, receive exclusive updates, see the artwork first (designed by the amazing Elly Lucas) and order some exclusive extras. I am extremely excited to share it with you all!

I have teamed up with PledgeMusic to create, for you, a truly unique and special pre-order. Everybody who pre-orders will get a digital download of the new album once it’s ready to share (April 2017).

Please watch the campaign video for more information on the project. Thank you all in advance for your support!

About

Emily Mae Winters’ haunting folk songs are quickly permeating the folk and song writing scene. Influenced by the likes of Nancy Kerr, The Unthanks, Kate Rusby, Gillian Welch, Sarah Jarosz and Alison Krauss, Emily teamed up with BBC Radio 2 Folk Award winner Ben Walker to produce her first commercial EP release ‘Foreign Waters’ which was received with critical acclaim. Her self-penned track ‘Anchor’ from the release won the folk category in the Guardian Songwriting Competition. The tracks have received extensive national and international folk and Americana radio play including support from the BBC RADIO 2 Folk Show with Mark Radcliffe. After spending the last year opening for top UK folk acts including Josienne Clarke and Ben Walker, Jim Moray and Hannah Sanders and Ben Savage and performing a well-received club tent set at the Cambridge Folk Festival, Emily is currently finishing up recording her debut album.

Building on the substantial success of her first EP, Foreign Waters, released in July 2016, her new album ‘Siren Serenade’ will be released in April 2017. The record is being co- produced by BBC Radio 2 Folk award winner Ben Walker (musical partner to Josienne Clarke) and Lauren Deakin- Davies (Laura Marling). It will feature a host of top folk names, including Hannah Sanders and Ben Savage, Lukas Drinkwater, Evan Carson (Sam Kelly and the Lost Boys) and others– with choral and ensemble arrangements. There are 11 tracks on the album, a combination of self-penned and traditional folk songs which draw inspiration from poetry, myths and stories of love, loss, fate and memory.

This year she received a scholarship to attend and perform at Folk Alliance International in Kansas in February with EFDSS (English Folk Dance and Song Society).

“If I had to predict the path for EMW, there’ll be Radio 2 folk awards, respect will be gained. There’s a depth to her talent and an ease about her performance that bode well… I expect one day I’ll use the phrase ‘sounds like Emily Mae Winters’.” Americana UK

“Emily Mae Winters has produced an arresting, enthralling tantalising introduction to her work that leaves us hungry for more.” Folk Radio UK

“Superbly crafted and dramatic song writing… Winters’ songs reflect a love of poetry, her lyrics giving a dark edge to songs that are beautifully performed. ” R2 Magazine

“Some singers grow on you over time and others stop you in your tracks. Emily Mae Winters falls into the second category.” Fatea Magazine
