UPDATE: Our year is finally coming to an end, and we’re thrilled to celebrate this amazing campaign with one last drive. You helped us make two EPs – To The Fire and To The Wolves – and record our new full-length.
Now we just have to do the following to get it out into the world: master the songs, manufacture CDs and vinyl, hire a publicist to promote to the press, hire another publicist to promote to radio, and advertise anywhere we can.
We’re so proud of this album and so proud of you amazing supporters for being there every step of the way. You’ve given us the confidence to carry on with this mission and hopefully – through our monthly Access, Premium, and InnerCircle videos – have enjoyed yourselves along the way.
Now let’s make sure we get this out to the world right. Support us in these two weeks – get stuff like vinyl and a backstage song – and we can all rest well knowing we did our damndest to get this music out there.
In this very unpredictable and weird world known as the music business, we’re trying something different. Support us – not a project, but us – for a year, and get on the inside of how a band makes, records, releases and promotes music, and just generally goes about the daily business of survival.
Why are we doing this?
It’s a strange time for music. While it quietly plays in the background of our local Starbucks or is featured in those mysterious what-does-that-even-do drug commercials, our attention spans become shorter and our patience thinner. Owning is replaced by streaming and—let’s be honest—having unlimited, instant access to any song you want just makes it all a little less special. We wonder if music has transformed from art to a commodity.
Yet we know you’re out there, and we know you value music the way it should be valued. And with all the distractions, it’s harder for you to wade through the millions of bands out there, and harder for us to find you and keep you in our corner. Like almost every other band, we struggle with how to keep doing this in a dying industry where music is valued less.
So we’re starting a new journey, and we invite you you to come along for the ride. Instead of seeing how we make one particular project, you can see how we create and release material over the course of one year. Think of it like supporting a public radio station.
We’re taking out the middle-people and focusing on the music. No distractions.
What’s in it for you?
Our exclusives – and this page – will always be changing. Our exclusives are divided into three categories: access, experience, and stuff. The last two are self explanatory (yes, wrestling with Travis).
For Access, you get on the inside. We’ll ask for feedback, have you weigh in on band decisions, send you send you random covers we’ll randomly do in random places. We’ll prioritize the music, because we know that’s what you want.
How do we track this thing?
We have three main targets throughout the course of our year together:
Milestone 1: January 2015. We’ll mix, master and promote our EP, make a video and tour the Northeast.
Milestone 2: May 2015. We’ll do pre-production, record, mix, master and promote our full-length, expand our touring area, and make another video.
Milestone 3: September 2015. We’ll gear up for releasing our full-length, tour through the summer, purchase yacht, Cristal, island.
We have a lot of new music, a lot of stories to tell, and a lot of energy. We’d love to share it all with you.
Who are we helping?
Our songs often tell stories of inequality and injustice, ideas we can see played out on our very own streets in our very own cities and towns. Feeding America tackles hunger through its nationwide network of food banks; it feeds more than 37 million people through food pantires, soup kitchens and shelters and is crucial to our fight against hunger and homelessness.
We supported them through our last Pledge campaign, and we are thrilled to support them again through this one.
