Hello all! My new record is called Feed the Fire. It’s my first fully collaborative album (written and recorded with Doug Romanow), and this Pledge Music campaign will lead up to its October 2018 release.
I’ve been doing this for 20 some years now, and, in addition to the usual suspects (such as collector’s edition vinyl, posters and CDs) there’s a lot here that features things I’ve collected over my career so far, including cassettes, vintage albums, original artwork and other relics.
I’m hoping to make some new fans, connect with new minds and fill some listeners with what I have to offer, which is love. And to my existing fans still following me, thank you for your long years of support!

A Bit About Feed the Fire:
Kinnie Starr returns with a record born out of her recovery from a traumatic brain injury she received in car accident after the release of 2014’s From Far Away. In the frustration and chaos that ensued as Kinnie’s body and brain struggled to work together as they used to, her interest in the nature of communication deepened. In this era where immediacy is king and anxiety disorders rise alongside extroversion and “urgent” digital chatter, the upcoming album Feed the Fire will be a critical look at where we are at in our relationships to the screen, to our faiths, and to each other.

This selfie scratch is a drawing that captures my white girl side, and is an inside joke with my dad. My father likes to tease me about the shape of my nose, laughing at me for being ‘so white’. It’s sorta funny sometimes. Also can be annoying. My dad is pretty funny tho, so I let him tease me. So do my brothers. Most of my friends who came to the house growing up didn’t like our dad, except for the odd one.

“STOP PUSHING: is a prismacolour and pen original drawing. I can’t remember why I liked this drawing but I kept it. I shredded 98% or my original drawings and musings and sketchbooks one year when I realized they either needed to go back to the earth, or to a museum. I guess I didn’t value my work much to be able to let go like that. This drawing survived the shred day.

All gone!

- “5 Song Demo” cassette: I think my manager,  Mandy, created this demo just for the Michigan Women’s Festival, which, to this day,  has been one of the highlights of my career. The songs will be from that same time period; late 90’s early 2000’s.

- Photo (8×10): The contact sheet is by Robert Kenney. These photos were taken when I lived in Vancouver, before 2003.

- Bookmark: The bookmarks are photos by Derek Shapton for my album, Mending, which was created for Danny Goldberg at Mercury/Island/Def Jam. Mending got shelved when the music industry folded in on itself in about 1999. The artwork and visual concepts were all about yarn, unraveling, and repairing. That album still sits on the shelf, but won’t sit there forever!

- Tidy CD:  This is the record that changed my life forever. This signing put me on the map with the boys club of music Elite. Clive Davis personally flew to Vancouver to take me out for dinner because I couldn’t go to him. I barely knew who he was because I never grew up plugged into pop culture. He was kind to me, and seemed smart, but I signed with Danny Goldberg instead. I don’t regret my decision to work with Goldberg over Clive Davis. To this day I’m still kind of slack jawed that my career has been so interesting and blessed.

- Gig handbill: signed 90s era handbill for an International Women’s Day show in Nelson, BC.

- Signed, limited edition 180 gram audiophile, coloured vinyl.

- BKLounge cassette: BKlounge was the name of that project because De La Soul’s “bitty” track. You will notice an actual phone number with no area code on this cassette. The songs are VERY embarrassing but heh… we all start somewhere. Brock Ellis is a big part of this cassette. He was a big influence on me and helped me learn guitar.

- Photo (8×10): Junkyard and tea was an idea I had around the release of Tune-Up, my second CD and the CD I released after getting out of my contract with Mercury/Island/Def Jam. The album was titled Tune-Up in response to women’s work and how few women there are in automotive trades. The photo idea was to riff on the ‘gloss’ of new cars. That’s drummers John Raham and Rob Chursinoff.

- Tune Up Manual: This is a booklet released to promote Kinnie’s first album (Tune Up) released after leaving Mercury/Def Jam. It was supposed to help listeners in digesting the record using the idea of a care care manual as a central metaphor.
