CBC Vinyl Reissues Part 2

3 New Vinyl Reissues on exclusive red vinyl formats in limited numbers.

From the Label

MajikBus Entertainment have partnered with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation to explore, develop & commercially release a special range of music products from one of the largest untapped entertainment archives in existence. Dating back to the very beginning of Radio and Television, this extraordinary body of work captures performances by some of the most influential and globally recognised artists in the world, from Johnny Cash to Duke Ellington, Muddy Waters and The Doors.

CBC ‘The Transcription Records’ Series – Volume Two

In the late 1960s the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation decided it needed to give a boost to home grown talent and help Canadians compete for airtime with British and American artists. The ‘Transcription Records’ were produced in small runs of 250 units and sent to radio stations across Canada and the US. Some 48 years later, these long-lost albums recorded in the 1960s and 70s by Canadian jazz, folk, blues and rock artists are to finally see their first ever commercial release.

Highly sought-after and collectable, these exceptional albums are a true vinyl collectors must-have. Remastered from the original tapes where they still exist, or carefully restored from mint vinyl originals along with the original artwork, these strictly limited-edition vinyl reissues will be pressed on 180 gram heavyweight vinyl at the brand new, state-of-the-art record pressing plant Dublin Vinyl. MajikBus have produced a super limited run of just 100 x Red Vinyl for this edition. These albums are exclusively available to pre order now via PledgeMusic.

The latest titles to be added to the transcription series include original songs from jazz folk musician Beverly Copeland, whose 1970 self-titled album for the CBC has become a cult item for collectors worldwide.

Recorded by 18 year old Barbara Gryfe is the sunshine pop album What The World Needs Now – a regular on CBC shows, Gryfe produced a beautiful album of covers from Burt Bacharach and Jimmy Webb to traditional Jewish folk songs, performed in Hebrew.

Little is known of Stephanie Taylor’s career outside of her work in the late 60s and 70s with the CBC, but her 1970 album “I Don’t Know Where I Stand” of pop and soft rock covers including Leonard Cohen, The Beatles, Paul Simon and Joni Mitchell delivers Taylor’s incredible jazz infused vocals with musical backing arranged and conducted by Doug Riley.

These titles, along with the entire series were originally pressed in tiny runs of 250 copies and were sent exclusively to the CBC’s broadcast affiliates as part of a campaign to promote new Canadian talent.

Pre-order any item on the MajikBus campaign to access exclusive V.I.P updates, video content from the CBC archives and complimentary digital downloads. Look out for additions to the campaign in the coming months, including vinyl & box set releases from legends including Johnny Cash, Muddy Waters, The Doors and many more.

Beverly Glenn-Copeland was born in Philadelphia USA but this cult jazz folk album was recorded in
Canada for the CBC in-house label and only released to CBC radio stations. In the intervening years the album has become highly sought after by collectors. Stand out tracks include the amazing ‘Don’t Despair’ and ‘Good Morning Blues’, both written by Copeland, and psych jazz reprise of the first track ‘Don’t Despair’. Copeland’s sound is a wonderful mix of Terry Callier with hints of Joan Armatrading and Joni Mitchell. Incredibly rare, originals of this LP have been known to sell for up to USD$1500 in the market place. Having now transitioned to a man, Glenn Copeland is still recording and playing his incredible music today.
