A couple years ago, I was riding the subway home late one night when it came to an unusually sudden stop, underground, mid-tunnel---it was like the train got sucker punched and fell to its knees. In a psychic instant, all the passengers onboard assumed this collective sense of silent dread. None of us knew for sure what had happened, but as animals, it was as if we could all instinctively sense the loss of life. Someone had in fact decided to jump in front of our train, and as we were quietly evacuated, we began to beautifully grieve together as total strangers for this lost anonymous soul.
What was operating here? I was deeply moved, but mostly, inspired. The phrase “OMINOUS HARMINUS” came to me as a concept, a mouth-mumbling dizzying ambition to create a musical work that would study this ancient marriage between death, beauty, and community. I became obsessed with what I like to call Apocalypse Optimism---the Renaissance after the Black Death, the green after the volcano, Catastrophe, Mother of Cosmos.
I got giddy with etymology and intellectualizing the work, but the only real way to channel and communicate it’s primordial guts was to drum, chant, yawp, dance---violently, ecstatically---to sound it out, so to speak.

The record itself (currently in demo form) contains content both old and new---a jukebox of past, present, and future lives. I’ve been treating the songs like yoga poses---practicing the same sequence each day to let it stretch and evolve. I like reanimating teenage spirits, repetition, marathon studio sessions, getting lost and unrecognizable.
This body of work has been churning for many, many years, and finally feels grown-up enough to be shared with the world. I am so proud of it, but have been cautious not to rush a less-than-stellar release. OMINOUS HARMINUS deserves a proper recording and mastering process, a professional printing, and a strong press campaign to help it graduate into the ether. These services, of course, require resources beyond my means. With your support, and with a lot of fun and delight in return, our collective efforts can render this art alive!

In invoking the great spirit of generosity, it feels right to extend the giving. Once the project minimum is met, a percentage of the proceeds will go toward the WIllie Mae Rock Camp for Girls, an exceptional organization so in sync with the Idgy Dean way of life.
“Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls is a non-profit music and mentoring program that empowers girls and women through music education, volunteerism, and activities that foster self-respect, leadership skills, creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration.
The organization brings together girls and women from diverse communities and encourages them to explore self-expression through music, hone their critical thinking skills, build meaningful alliances with other girls and women, develop confidence in making healthy choices in their lives, and effect positive change in their communities and in the world.
Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls operates a summer day camp, after school programs, and community events in New York City.”

Idgy Dean is the solo music project of Brooklynite Lindsay Sanwald. Experimenting with accumulative sound, percussion and choral arrangement, Idgy Dean builds haunted rhythm-driven songs, recorded and produced alone at home and looped live on stage. Her debut EP, “Heart & Lung,” was released in August 2011. She is currently collaborating with the A.O. Movement Collective’s ETLE Universe.
Please note: there have will be increasing reports of instability in the chronoverse surrounding this event—a singular sense of time may not be secure at this event.
