Ladies and gentlemen.

Good day. Sorry – this is a long one, so pull up an oxen and relax.

As you may well know in 2013 we crowdfunded an album on this (jargon alert) platform and hit the target within a few hours (not a humble brag that, more a statement of fact). It was, and remains, one of the loveliest days of our lives, so much so that the rumour is that I was even seen to smile, although briefly, and on the way home from work bought an extra beer to share with my cat, Chicken, regaling her with stories about how the internet could be a force for good in this world rather than an echo chamber for fanatics. Thank you again if you contributed – we didn’t do it for vindication (we know how good we are, or aren’t) but it felt nice regardless, the idea that people all over the world (although mainly in the UK, thanks to the hugely prohibitive postage costs, especially for posters) had enough faith in our thing to throw their money at it without hearing a note.

I hope the album met your expectations, because it certainly did ours – we’re very proud of it, as we were with the ‘human death’ mini album, the screen-printed poster and the t-shirt, all of which were produced with a considerable amount of thought and not simply thrown together for the sake of creating more tiers, as sexy and as profitable as that sounds.

Now, in December 2015 (yeah, that’s the date, update your calendars) we’re repeating the same trick for album number five, which will be called ‘the peace and truce of future of the left’. The songs are written (although again, we’re writing more) and we’ve booked in some days in Monnow Valley (where albums number 1, 2 and 4 were recorded) with Ant Chapman recording. We are hoping to have the whole thing mixed and mastered (again with Sean Magee at Abbey Road) by the middle of January in an attempt to turn the whole thing around as quickly as possible – vinyl production times are fucking insane at the moment so we’re hoping for a general release date to pledgers of 25th March 2016, with general release to those FAITHLESS HEATHENS WHO LOVE NOTHING MORE THAN THE NUMBERS IN THEIR BANK ACCOUNTS (1) happening a week later, on 1st April 2016. There will also be a mini-album of other songs which don’t quite fit (probably the more sprawling ones, which the record definitely isn’t). You are welcome to see this as a collection of outtakes or b-sides, but ultimately you would only be lying to yourself.

I know I would say this, but the songs are sounding fantastic. Nasty and (for want of a better word) funky – like a machine having sex with its own shadow then giving the shadow some taxi money home and surprising it by actually owning and operating the taxi and driving to a plush hotel where it receives expensive bath salts and a complete CV/Resume makeover which results in a complete lifestyle change and, eventually, world domination. Yeah, like that. There’s a little less variety than the last record, at this stage at least, but more focus. Anyway, I’ll let you judge that (2).

The details – Michael at Aesthetic Apparatus (who did the screen-printed poster last time out and the cover of ‘Travels with myself and Another’ as well as the two Christian Fitness records (3)) will be doing the artwork whereas the screen-printed poster and t-shirt will be handled by Krent Able (who did such a fine job on the album cover and t-shirt last time out). We’re delighted to be working with them both again and I hope this meets with your approval (4).

As an extra on this occasion (and inspired by our good friend Mike Vennart) we (although mostly Julia) have been working with Fredric Effects on a pedal inspired by/for the album, which combines the modified Russian Green Muff – the pedal which makes up a huge amount of the FOTL sound (although with us mostly for bass) – with two other fuzz sounds, both of which have been used in the writing process thanks to the prototype that Tim from Fredric Effects has provided us with. If the pedal seems expensive (especially when shipping to other continents is taken into account) then I apologise, but we feel as if the price is appropriate and in line with other, similar pedals. It’s perfect for guitar as well as bass and for me (I have always viewed the world through my own eyes and will continue to do so) it’s a big muff ‘clone’ which improves greatly on the original, with more clarity and range. The other sounds are fantastic as well, one a little more wooden (think ‘Singing of the Bonesaws’ from the last record) and the other more high-gain and treble-y. I know, right, stop with the sexy talk.

So … that’s it. New record. You know the score. We asked twitter what platform you preferred and you said this one, so here we are, asking respectfully in just over 1,000 words and with a funny video to distract you once more.
As my gran used to say ‘Don’t fuck it up.’

Thankyou.

falco (on behalf of future of the left)

P.S. We would LOVE to tour everywhere. Please, we don’t not tour your country out of spite (although spite can be pretty funny). If we can afford it we will do it. Trust me.

(1) I don’t really mean that. Probably.

(2) although looking at the variables one thing is clear – YOU WILL AGREE WITH ME.

(3) these are my solo-not-solo records which are available from bandcamp for money/free-streaming/ignoring, as you wish.

(4) if it doesn’t you can design your own cover/t-shirt and upload it to a secret government website. I’ll get you the address just after I download the new Adele record.

Der Stompenboxen, the FOTL fuzz box, combines three distinctive and complimentary fuzzes in one box. These circuits have been especially chosen to sound great on both guitar and bass. The first fuzz, selected by the footswitch on the right, is an accurate recreation of the highly sought-after green Sovtek Russian Muff. This pedal is famed for having the best bass response of all the muff variants. Capable of bass-heavy growl, seemingly endless sustain, through to harsh crystaline fuzz on the treblier settings.
The second half of Der Stompenboxen combines a further two fuzz circuits with a switch to choose between them. There’s a primative and doomy sludge fuzz, designed to let all the lowest frequencies through. Finally, we’ve added a wasp-like, buzzing silicon fuzz – reminiscent of fabled Japanese fuzzboxes of the 1970s. You can use these effects on their own, or combine with the Russian Muff channel for all kinds of thick, chaotic fuzz.
