“This Town” is a six song EP written in response to the tragic and untimely death of two close friends from our hometown of Bangor Maine. The songs are about more than Roxanne and Phill. These are songs inspired by the Downtown Bangor Community who loved these two beautiful people and who are grieving and finding strength in each other.
When you pledge you will receive a download of the album before anyone else. You’ll also get exclusive updates including information about the inspiration behind each song, the incredibly thoughtful and personal artwork for the album created by friend and artist Allison Melton, and a first look at the video for the title track from the album.
We have a lot great packages to choose from including many with tickets to our two record release parties and new T-shirts including imagery of Maine and Downtown Bangor in particular. We also have some great premium packages including some one of a kind items and events.
This album is serious in nature, but of course there is a sense of joyfulness that comes from expressing emotion. You’ll enjoy being part of this campaign and you’ll have insight into and access to the emotional underpinnings of making this record. Please join us.
For a more detailed description of this project see below.
In early August of 2014 two of our friends from Bangor ME died unexpectedly in a car accident on route 1A between Ellsworth and Brewer. They were killed in a head on collision by a drunk driver in the early evening hours. Roxanne and Phill both worked at Paddy Murphy’s, a pub in downtown Bangor and a centerpiece of the downtown community. Bangor is a town in Central/Eastern Maine that, although was once a logging and commerce capital of the U.S. is now primarily a service center. For many years throughout the 80’s and 90’s Bangor saw her young people either flee the area for cultural and economic opportunities elsewhere or fold themselves into a life of poverty or subsistence with little economic or cultural promise. But in the past ten or so years the downtown area of this small city has seen an incredible resurgence and growth both economically and culturally. The citizens of Bangor can easily point to the downtown area as a place where artists, poets, musicians, and entrepreneurs have gathered together to form a community that supports, nurtures and celebrates the efforts of their compatriots. Roxanne and Phill were important and loved members of this downtown community. When we all lost Roxanne and Phill, it felt as though everything changed and the thread was being ripped out of our community.
We believe that actively remembering Roxanne and Phill through the telling of stories, the sharing of recollections and speaking openly about the gap in our community is an essential part of the grieving process. When we came home from summer tour in order to be with our hometown in the wake of this terrible loss, we listened to what our friends and loved ones had to say, we reflected on our own experiences both before and after we lost Roxanne and Phill and tried to create a set of songs that would help tell the stories of Downtown Bangor and the two people we are all missing each and every day.
